Please read the below information regarding installations of bird wire and the key components required for a successful installation to prevent pigeons. Birdgo supply a wide range of control measures and are available within the shop area of this site.
Birdgo bird wire is a discreet ledge prevention measure that has been designed to stop pigeons and other similar sized birds from perching on the edges of building facades and other low-pressure ledges only. This system is not suitable to stop pigeons in high activity areas, night roosting and especially nesting.
The installed bird wire does not prevent pigeons from landing but acts as discomfort once in contact with the wire. The flexible wire tension from the installed spring pushes the pigeon and encourages them to seek an alternative location. Bird wire is a discreet alternative to spikes but may not be suitable for all types of installations, especially in heavy pressure environments. The wire does not harm the bird.
For a basic system, users will require the following:
We recommend that a minimum of 2 rows are installed on the outer ledge of building ledges to prevent pigeons from perching. This is normally satisfactory to encourage pigeons to seek alternative areas, especially in areas of low populations. For larger infestations, we recommend placing wire throughout the entire depth of the ledge.
The posts’ height from the floor level should be 90mm for the front row and 115mm for the rear row. For surface mounts, the users would use 90mm and 130mm posts. For 25mm anchor rivets drilled into the surface, the post lengths should be 115mm & 150mm.
The initial row should be installed 20mm from the edge with additional rows centred at 65mm, a minimum of 2 rows should be installed, but more rows will enhance the system. Posts should be spaced at a maximum wire distance of 1.5m.
If using surface mounts, we recommend leaving time for the adhesive to cure before tensioning the wire. If purchasing a kit that includes adhesive, we supply a low modular polymer adhesive with high strength and is extremely flexible but can take between 24-28 hours to set. A surface cleaner or activator should be used to enhance the grip.
Every section of wire should contain a standard size spring, with the length of the wire not exceeding 1.5m. The spring allows the wire to remain tight, without sag, and flexible when in contact with the bird or fluctuations in weather without the wire breaking. Only 1 spring is required per section, and the direction should alternate from the front and 2nd row to prevent straddling.
The wire to the post or spring is attached via a small 0.7mm nickel-plated copper crimp to each end. For ease, we recommend using the Birdgo bird wire crimping pliers that allow users to quickly and easily compress the crimp and cut the excess wire.
