Electric grid fly killers are devices used for the control of flies inside buildings. They work by attracting flies to a special UV light mounted inside the unit; on entering they will quickly come into contact with a high voltage grid which kills the fly. A tray is located under the grid system to capture the dead flies. There is a risk of insect parts from the zap leaving the catchment area and so for this reason we do not recommend the use of electric grid machines in food preparation areas.
All fly units come in a wide range of sizes and capabilities and as a standard rule the combined watt power from the tubes is an indicator of the coverage of the machine. Other factors such as material and serviceability are major factors in the cost of a unit.
Periodic maintenance is required with electrical grid machines, in particular the removal of flies from the catchment area. The UV tubes should be changed yearly and it is recommended this is carried out in March-April before the fly season commences.
