Gull Netting

Gull netting is a physical barrier used to prevent gulls from landing on a surface; most commonly this will be a flat roof at the top of a building that has had a history of nesting. Netting is an excellent method of prevention as it does not harm the bird and, if installed correctly, will last for several years and will protect any surface underneath.

Netting can be complicated to install and you should install any net a minimum of 1 metre above any surface area (1.5-2m would be recommended). It should be tight without sag; otherwise gulls may attempt to land which will result in their entanglement.

To ensure that the net does not sag it is important that a wire frame system is installed to keep the net in position. You will need to consider how to suitably fix this to your roof and create a strong and long-lasting frame to support the weight of the net in all weather conditions.

We offer a range of fixings to attach the net to the wire frame. We recommend using 2mm wire for the main wireframe, corner fixings such as M6 bolts for supporting the end wire, intermediary fixings such as screw eyes and turnbuckles for tightening the wire to remove flex and ferrules or wire grips for holding everything together. Intermediary fixings should be spaced no further than 1 metre apart.

When working at height we always recommend that installers carry out a risk assessment and take the necessary precautions.

We have a selection of gull net examples that you can view here.
