Glue board fly killers are a popular device that are often used in areas of food preparation as electrical grid alternatives carry the risk of dead flies leaving the machine when zapped. All glue board machines have a UV light that attracts specific flies to the internal chamber of the machine, a large adhesive board captures flies as they enter and therefore removes the risk of dead flies entering food preparation areas.
All fly units come in a wide range of sizes and capabilities and as a standard rule the combined watt power from the tubes is an indicator of the coverage of the machine. Other factors such as material and serviceability are major factors in the cost of a unit.
Periodic maintenance is required with glue board machines. The internal glue board should be replaced quarterly or when full, in dusty environments this may be more often. The UV tubes should be changed yearly and it is recommended this is carried out in March-April before the fly season commences.
