Cluster flies are a group of flies that are commonly found hibernation in buildings throughout the winter; whilst they often do not create physical harm they can be a nuisance throughout the winter as adults are attracted to lights and often require control.
Treatment of cluster flies is straightforward, but timing is a significant factor for long-lasting success; as they are not nesting in a specific area targeted control can only be gained when they are present at the time of treatment. Best results should be undertaken after the first frost of October and at night when the flies are within the building. Flies can often leave and return throughout the day resulting in missed opportunities which often require re-treatments.
Treatment can be instant, and the use of void smokes and aerosols is highly effective; care should be taken as to the location of the treatment and should be placed where the majority of adult flies are present; mainly in attic spaces and other similar voids.
