Cockroach Control

Cockroaches are a common and often feared pest within the UK. Whilst there are several species of pest cockroaches the likelihood is that you will only encounter the German Cockroach (Blattella germanica) or Oriental Cockroach (Blatta orientalis); both are present within the UK and can quickly grow in population if unmanaged.

For best results, users should understand the biology and behaviour of cockroaches. At ProPest we have decided not to create vast amounts of text on this subject. Hence, if you wish to find , further information on this subject Wikipedia has a reliable amount of relevant information on the biology of both oriental and german cockroaches which can be found here; alternatively, the BPCA is the leading UK association for pest control-related information including a treatment page that can be found here.

Cockroaches are unlikely to appear in a property without a cause; they are typically imported via their eggs on food packaging or other products that have come from an area of cockroach activity. Generally, the most common scenario is an infestation within a flat, usually within a town, in which cockroaches quickly can infest new properties via pipe and electrical channels and which are difficult or impossible to control. As they do not have a hive structure ecosystems can quickly develop remotely and are hard to control.

Treatments will vary depending on a wide range of scenarios including the size and location of the population. For new and emerging populations using a liquid spray will likely gain significant results, but the application must be correctly placed in the area of activity. Larger infestations can be more complex and usually a multi-treatment approach would be recommended such as using gel baits, surface sprays and powders (either toxic or non-toxic); void aerosols are also an excellent way to control adult populations.

With all treatments we highly recommend that a cockroach trap is used within the area as a way to monitor any treatments; this is a beneficial way to monitor current and emerging populations as well as locate sources of activity.
