Starling Control

Starlings can cluster in large numbers and often have specific roosting and nesting sites that they will routinely return to. This can occasionally cause issues and their associated waste can damage building facades and trees. Starlings are also commonly found to be a pest in food storage sites and steps are often required to control them.

In the UK we normally encounter the Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris). If you wish to understand more about the behaviour and biology of this bird Wikipedia is an excellent reference tool and the related page can be found here. Also, the BPCA (the main UK pest control association) has an informative page on controlling starlings; this page can be found here.

Due to the size of starlings, it can be difficult to physically prevent them from landing on or accessing an area. When possible users should take all steps to create a physical barrier that starlings are unable to pass.

The most common method of prevention and most suitable is netting as it creates a physical barrier that excludes starlings. However, it is important that the system is installed correctly otherwise starlings can quickly take advantage of any weakness within the system. We do not sell audio or sonic devices as they have been proven to not work.
