The best practice is to stop mice from gaining access to a property before they can establish; mice can be a tricky pest to stop however proofing obvious and easy-to-access holes will significantly increase the likelihood of a mouse not having the opportunity to enter and create an infestation.
The primary way of prevention is to proof air bricks as this has been a preferred access point for mice; using mesh covers creates a physical barrier to exclude access. Smaller access holes can also be proofed using products such as the rodent seal or mesh to stop ingress.
It is important to note that the likelihood of excluding all mice from a property is low as its often that access points may be out of reach. At ProPest we recommend that proofing works are undertaken before you have an infestation OR after the infestation has been eradicated. Proofing mice that are not controlled will only encourage them to seek alternative access points that you may be unaware of or have no control over.
