Mice are one of the principal pests within the UK and around the world, whilst we have a wide range of mouse species only a very small amount cause an issue with the House Mouse (Mus musculus) being the primary culprit. When mice have established an infestation within buildings their control is always required.
Control methods will vary depending on the location and size of the mouse population. Proofing is always the recommended method of control as this will generally stop any infestations from occurring, of course, this can be difficult to undertake and not always considered until a problem occurs!
When mice are active within a property the use of traps should be the initial treatment method as often complete control can be undertaken, which minimises the use of more complicated products such as rodenticide. When stubborn infestations persist the use of rodenticide (also commonly known as mouse poison) should be used; this is an excellent method of control but does come with issues such as the safe use around non-target animals.
